Polka Dot Dress from the York Wedding

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

At the wedding of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew in July of 1986, with the exception of Princess Anne all the Windsor ladies - the Queen, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, even her daughter Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones - were in varying shades and prints of blue (Tina Brown of 'Vanity Fair' said that "a lot of calling around" had been done to make sure they were co-ordinated). The Princess of Wales was no exception, ordering this blue and black couture Victor Edelstein dress for the occasion. But she still showed her individuality - she was famous during the mid-80's for wearing polka dots, and used them again here. The unusual hat was by Kirsten Woodward of Chanel, the shape coming from her previous year's line.

By this time, the Wales' 5-year marriage had broken down, and Charles by his own admission had gone back to Camilla. As always in public, both Charles and Diana were the perfect team (left), but, in contrast to the glowing bride and smiling bridegroom, observant eyes noticed that the Prince and Princess of Wales didn't speak to each other at all in Westminster Abbey. However, back at Buckingham Palace with her boys, Diana was a different person. (Right) Holding Harry for the official family portrait (incidentally, he's the only child in his mother's arms - all the other attendants and royal youngsters are seated on the floor in front) she is relaxed and laughing, and, later, as the bridal couple was late in leaving for their honeymoon, she is seen on video waiting outside for the bridal couple to leave, laughingly waving for them to hurry up.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess Doll is in specially printed silk by Sylvia Braden. It's fully lined in light blue, and closes in the back with snaps. Also includes the shaped hat in the same fabric, and matching clutch bag with quilted front. Not included are the shoes, which are the basic Franklin Mint pumps painted blue (but if you have a spare pair, I can paint them), or the gloves, which can be ordered from Dollsecrets. Shown with the earrings from the Inspecting the Guard outfit.doll.
