Casual Vacation Shorts Outfit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

August 1994 - Diana on vacation in Martha's Vineyard. She had been invited by her friend Lucia Flecha de Lima, who had rented an oceanfront estate on the Vineyard, to join her, her husband (the Brazilian ambassador to the US) and her grandchildren. Diana accepted the couple's invitation because it was one of the few places where she could relax away from the press. Still, papparazzi managed to catch a few photos of Diana, including ones of her relaxing in simple black shorts and a sleeveless blue shirt. The shirt would reappear a year and a half later, on Diana's landmines visit to Angola.

She had an active vacation - playing tennis on Katharine Graham's court, sailing with Walter Cronkite, shopping with Lucia - and also found time to visit Elizabeth Glaser , a pediatric AIDS activist who had contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion and who had unknowingly passed it on her to children, and with whom Diana had been corresponding. Still, it was a bittersweet two weeks - Diana had wanted to bring William and Harry with her, but Charles had refused, insisting the boys spent August with him at Balmoral.

This recreation consists of the blue top from Franklin Mint's Casual Khaki outfit, and black twill shorts, fully lined in beige to prevent staining. The black belt is from Franklin Mint's Black and White Sports outfit.
