Catherine Walker Desert Tunic Outfit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

The Prince and Princess of Wales undertook major tours of the Middle East in November of 1986 and March of 1989, and both included a desert picnic - near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1986(left) and in 1989 at the Al Ain oasis in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (right). As this meant Diana would not only still need to conform to the traditional dress customs for women but would also be sitting cross legged on carpets, Catherine Walker designed a silk long-sleeved tunic and pants outfit that would be entirely appropriate, and she wore it for both occasions.
The tunic in this recreation is in a custom printed cotton, and is partially lined at the bodice. The white pants are a silky polyester. Both tunic and pants fasten with a hook and eye. Shown with the shoes from the White Lace Dress and earrings from the Black Sequined Gown.
