fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Fashion was always a two-edged sword for Diana. She knew her public role demanded her to look stylish and she took that responsbility quite seriously, although it fed a media fascination with her clothing that she found relentless, aggravated her husband (who took it out on her), and, as time wore on, felt it trivialized herself and overshadowed the causes she worked hard for. It was also, quite simply, not her style - as 'Diana, An Extraordinary Life' puts it, "At heart, she was a casual and often unfashionable dresser. Off-duty,Diana deliberately went for outfits as unlike high fashion as she could devise" (page 46)

A glimpse of the 'real' Diana can be seen on their annual vacation with the Spanish royals in 1990. During a cruise off Majorca in King Juan Carlos' yacht the party was bedeviled by papparazzi, who caught shots of Diana and the Infante Cristina of Spain sunbathing on deck in bikinis, and tried to follow the young princes when they went ashore to rock climb. Hoping to keep the photographers at bay for the rest of the holiday if they were given some access, an impromptu photo call was arranged when the yacht returned to port. Since this was unexpected, none of the royals had appropriately 'public' attire and Diana appeared in regular private summer clothing, a fun screen-printed T shirt and slightly wrinkled shorts in a color that didn't quite match the top.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess Doll consists of a white transfer printed poly/cotton T shirt and turquoise cotton shorts. I got the plain white T from Dollsecrets and then applied the print. The shorts are cuffed, and are lined with China silk and have a white cotton waistband to prevent staining. (It is, of course, always possible to have the waistband in the same material as the shorts.) The shorts are also open at the bottom to accept the stand, so that the doll sits on it securely and the shorts hang properly. Shown with the sunglasses from the Ski Accessories.

(Please note that once again the colors didn't photograph exactly - the colored stars in the T shirt are actually the same color as the ones in Diana's original, and the shorts are a bit darker than photographed, again the same color as the originals).
