Striped Cardigan

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Roland Klein cotton sweater with knit-in scarf pattern - Diana bought the sweater and skirt 'off the peg' at his London shop in 1981, and wore it for years. (Right) Here she is wearing the original in 1987.

Upon her entry into the royal family, Diana was amazed (and a bit overwhelmed) at the amount of clothing she was going to need, and fashion designers weren't an area she had much previous experience with. In his book "Princess", Robert Lacey says she actually found Klein by mistake - she had gone to the Emmanuels one day in the summer of 1981 and took a wrong turn into his showroom, which was in the same building, and took the opportunity to buy an outfit while she was there. He ended up dressing Diana for years.

Hand Knit from 100% cotton thread.

Inspired by and in memory of Diana's humanitarian work, especially her love of children and her pioneering efforts on behalf of those affected by HIV/AIDS, a bear wearing a version of this outfit (right) was made for the Mother Bear Project. This organization collects hand made bears from all over the world and sends them to children in emerging nations either suffering from or orphaned by HIV/AIDS. As their literature states, "Something as simple as a hand-made bear can bring hope and comfort to a child who struggles to survive in a world made more difficult because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic." If you knit or crochet, please consider joining this effort.
