Chanel Boutique Sailor Dress

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

While Diana felt it was part of her job to wear and promote British fashion and designers, she was never averse to picking up something off the peg, regardless of where it came from, if she either liked and/needed something. This silk sailor dress from Chanel's Boutique ready to wear line was one such dress.

It seems to have been worn first in May of 1989 to a campaign launch at Kensington Palace for Dr. Barnardo's , of which she was patron. Diana wore it again in September of 1990(left), when she brought William and Harry to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to visit their father, where he was having additional surgery on the arm he broke playing polo earlier in the year. The same day, back in London she stopped in at a support group for families of Gulf War soldiers . In June of 1991 (right, below)she wore it again to a hospital, bringing home William who had been hospitalized after an accident at school. Earlier that day, as Patron of the British Deaf Association, she went to Supra Regional Mental Health Service for Deaf People and opened it's new outpatient department at Springfield Hospital.(right, above)

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess Doll is in a navy blue cotton blend fabric, fully lined in white to prevent staining. It features a white sailor collar and cuffs, and a black bow at the front. It also has the pleated blouson back of the original, and a double row of gold tone faux 'buttons' on the front. It closes in the front with snaps. Includes shoulder bag. Shoes are from the Franklin Mint 'Inspecting the Guard' outfit, the watch from their Casual Khaki outfit, and earrings from the original People's Princess doll (in the Light Blue Suit).
