Mint Green Chanel Pastel Suit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Diana had worn Chanel for years, starting with the Wales' state visit to France in 1988. but occasionally and usually quietly. It may have been due to Diana's desire to promote British fashion publicly, but may also have been because of her sister-in-law. The DUchess of York wore a lot of Chanel, and the two reportedly became protective of their respective designers. This one is in mint green tweed, from Chanel's Boutique Spring/Summer 1997 ready to wear collection, and was available at retail, including rBergdorf Goodman's in New York City.

Diana wore it twice, first on Valentine's Day 1997 (left) to open a renal unit at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, of which she was Patron. Diana rarely wore brooches, so it seemed unusual for her to accessorize it with one. However, there was a purpose - it was in honor of the Variety Club's Golden Heart Day. The children's charity sells a new golden heart brooch every year as a fundraiser, and Diana was promoting that. In June she wore it for a luncheon with Anna Wintour and Tina Brown of American Vogue(right) during her trip to New York City for the Christie's auction of her gowns.

The online Princess Diana Virtual Musuem has this suit on display, but as it was an off the peg item it's impossible to know whether that was the one she actually owned. They show up frequently on resale sites..

This reproduction for the Franklin Mint Diana, the People's Princess doll is in mint green linen. It's fully lined in white polyester. The jacket features the pocket flaps of the original, and the green buttons are sewn on with gold thread to mimic the buttons of the original, which had the gold Double C Chanel logo. Both the jacket and the skirt close with snaps. The earrings are from the Franklin Mint Vasual kahaki outfit, and the shoes and purse from their Light Blue Suit outfit.
