Koala Sweater

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Novelty patterned cotton sweater - here's Diana(left), watching Prince Charles play polo, wearing the original when pregnant with William in May 1982. It's actually Charles' sweater - the royal couple were given a pair of Aussie animal-themed sweaters as a wedding present by Kim Wran, the daughter of the premier of New South Wales, Australia and a friend of Prince Charles . Designed and made by Jenny Kee of the Australian brand Flamingo Park, the bride's sweater had a kangaroo on it, but the large size of this one on Diana made it perfect for her 'bump'. She was also photographed in it on another occasion, with dark slacks and a collared shirt with tie. (right)

Hand Knit from 100% cotton thread. Made slightly fuller in the front, when padded with a cotton ball it gives Diana the pregnant look. Ruffled neck insert and red poly/cotton slacks included.
Inspired by and in memory of Diana's humanitarian work, especially her pioneering efforts on behalf of those affected by HIV/AIDS, a bear wearing a version of this sweater (right) was made for the Mother Bear Project. This organization collects hand made bears from all over the world and sends them to children in emerging nations either suffering from or orphaned by HIV/AIDS. As their literature states, "Something as simple as a hand-made bear can bring hope and comfort to a child who struggles to survive in a world made more difficult because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic." If you knit or crochet, please consider joining this effort.
