Gum Photo Outfit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

One of the most embarrassing and controversial events of Diana's post-separation life concerned secret photos taken of her working out at a public gym, and which were leaked to the British press in November 1993. She was wearing a one piece bathing suit over bike shorts. Some of her critics blamed her, saying she was 'in' on it and was only out for publicity and to quash stories of her bulimia. However, the gym owner denied this, and in an interview with a UK newspaper admitted that he had written to Diana suggesting she use his gym, promising to respect her privacy, and then hid a camera in the ceiling to photograph her and sell the photos. Interestingly, this story came up again briefly in the British phone hacking scandal in 2011, when during testimony an editor revealed he had hidden the gym owner in a hotel in Amsterdam for a few weeks.

She took the unusual - for a royal - step of suing the newspaper and gym owner. The suit was settled in 1995, with an undisclosed amount going to charity.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint Diana the People's Princess doll is admittedly not an exact reproduction, but it's as close as I can come. The bathing suit is made from a floral print spandex and is fully lined in beige jersey knit. The bike shorts from a stretch knit. Diana has borrowed a towel from Tyler Wentworth. The sneakers came from Claire's boutique (they were actually on keychains), and the socks from Dollsecrets.

Please note that no more can be made, there was only a very small amount of the floral print spandex.
