Catherine Walker Green & Blue Suit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Opening day of Royal Ascot, 1992 (Below). Diana debuts a new outfit by her favorite team of Catherine Walker (silk jacket and skirt) and Philip Sommerville (hat).

This was a stressful time for Diana. Her tall all biography by Andrew Morton "Diana - Her True Story" had just been serialized in the newspaper, and the full book was being published this same day. According to her butler, Paul Burrell, Diana felt frozen out and snubbed by the royal family at Ascot, and was particularly hurt by the invitation to the royal enclosure of Andrew and Camilla Parker-Bowles - whom Diana had just outed in the book as her husband's mistress. She did not attend after the second day.

A month later Diana wore this to the wedding of the Duke of Kent's daughter Lady Helen Windsor (Left, walking down to St. George's chapel with Harry.) As usual, she wore a recently seen outfit to a wedding to as to not upstage the bride. A year later, in June of 1993, she wore it again when she attended a ceremony to take up her post as the Colonel-in-Chief of The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment (Right), which has recently been formed by combining her old regiment, the Royal Hampshire, with another one.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess Doll is in a blue and green linen blend. The jacket features gold tone buttons on the front and cuffs, and closes in the front with snaps. Both jacket and skirt are fully lined in white. The hat is the one from the Franklin Mint Grey Suit outfit, painted a dark navy and trimmed in green to match the suit. The shoulder bag was made by a friend and the gloves are from Dollsecrets. Earrings are from the Franklin Mint Inspecting the Guard outfit and the shoes from their 'Travolta' gown outfit.
