'Caring' Dress

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Silk crepe de chine 'paintbox' print dress by David Sassoon for Bellville Sassoon. Diana ordered this dress in 1988, specifically because of the bright print. She wore it repeatedly through the late 80's and early 90's, so often, in fact, that the press eventually would complain every time she was seen in it. She wore it usually on visits to hospitals or other stops for her charity work, and called it her 'caring dress', because the cheerful print evoked a positive response, especially from children. .

Silk dress, fully lined, featuring the 'tulip' sleeves, pleated shoulders, and shirred mid-section of the original. Fabric courtesy Sylvia Braden.
