Emmanuel Ballgown

Diana wore this ballgown while on a tour of Australia in 1985. Famously, she wore her emerald necklace as a headband - the most enduring story was that she had forgotten her tiara, although there were contemporary reports that the back of her neck had gotten badly sunburned and the only place she could wear the necklace without pain was on her forehead. Although she had worn it previously like this for a private Christmas party in 1981, Charles reportedly didn't like it on this occasion, thinking it didn't look regal enough. The gown was of silk organza with crystal beading, designed by the Emmanuels, who also designed her wedding gown. She also wore this gown in March of 1985 to the premiere of 'A Passage to India'.







This recreation is of polyester with chiffon attached underskirts, and features glass beads and rhinestone accents. Bodice is fully lined. The headband was also included, and consists of green and clear rhinestones on a silver ribbon base, with elastic at the sides (which is hidden by her hair) that fasten in back with a snap, for easy fastening and removal with minimum of fuss to her hair.
