'Broken Arm' Casual Skirt Outfit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Sad end of a marriage ---

In late June 1990, Prince Charles broke his arm playing polo, and was treated at the local hospital near Highgrove. On what happened to be her 29th birthday, Diana, like any wife, drove to the hospital to pick him up, wearing this simple 'off-duty' casual outfit, a floral print cotton skirt (probably by Ralph Lauren, as the Duchess of York had Ralph Lauren jeans with the same print) with matching flats, with a blue workshirt over a white T.

Despite the troubles in their marriage, Diana was looking forward to his coming home to Highgrove, where she anticipated having the chance to take care of him, probably hoping that this might bring them closer together - or at least get some show of appreciation. Instead he was cranky and irritated, said he wanted to be alone, and, upset, she fled back to London and Kensington Palace. When she made a surprise visit back shortly thereafter, the surprise was instead on her - she found Camilla ensconced there "plumping his pillows."(Richard Kay, in 'Diana, the Untold Story'.)

What was probably even more galling to her was the spin coming out of Buckingham Palace, not the truth that Charles had rejected her to be there with his mistress, but instead a story that he was helping Diana quietly celebrate her birthday. It was one of the last nails in the coffin of their marriage, and her ability to trust the royal family to tell the truth where she was concerned.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess Doll features the A-line skirt in a specially printed cotton fabric by Sylvia Braden, which is fully lined and closes at the back with a snap. The work shirt is in blue cotton, and features faux pockets, long cuffed sleeves with snap closures, and French knot 'stud fasteners'. Also included is the sleeveless white cotton knit shell (made by Dollsecrets), and brown vinyl belt with silver-tone buckle. Shoes are NOT included, these are the basic Franklin Mint pumps covered with the skirt fabric. If you have an extra pair, I can cover them, if not, extra fabric WILL be provided if you care to have someone do them.
