Outlook Express - Mail Filters

In Outlook Express, it is possible to set up mail filters to block junkmail (also known as "Spam"). Below is a step-by-step guide to setting up these filters.

There are a few different ways to block certain types of messages in Outlook Express. You can block them by sender, by subject, or by keywords in the message body. Blocking by keywords is the recommended method as most junkmail senders change e-mail addresses frequently and in most cases, the subjects of the messages aren't going to all be the same.

Below are instructions for setting up a mail filter using keywords. The following filter will check for the word "*****SPAM*****" within incoming mail messages. If it finds the word "*****SPAM*****" it will move that email to a specified "SPAM" folder for your inspection.  If you wish to delete the message off of the server, so you don't download it, you will find that as an option under the "Select the Actions for your rule:" section.  "WARNING!" If you choose to delete the messages from the server they will be gone for good and you will not be able to download them in the future. "USE THIS OPTION AT YOUR OWN RISK"

You will then see the word "*****SPAM*****" listed in the box below. You can add any other words that you would like to filter out using the same method; just type them in the box and hit "Add".
In the area labeled "Rule Description", click on the underlined text in the box ("specifed" folder).
Select the folder named: "SPAM" and then click "OK"
