The Story of Skinny Pickles

Skinny Pickles did not start with the idea of bringing a product from "farm to table".
Skinny Pickles started in Deidre and Alex Bevan's kitchen...
a kitchen filled with baskets full of garden grown produce
waiting to be turned into holiday gifts for friends and family.

Over the past few years the recipe for the "Bread and Butter" pickle batches was tweaked and refined...
and each year the final home canned product was praised with comments like,
"those are just like my mom used to make", "Wow! Did you really make these?"
and
"These pickles taste like they are supposed to taste!".
One of those tasters was Richard Moretti of Moretti Nurseries in North Madison Township, Ohio
who offered Deidre a twenty by twenty plot of land to expand her pickle crop production
(He was thinking 20 by 20 yards, she was thinking 20 by 20 feet).
All he wanted out of the deal was a few more jars of pickles!

This is when Skinny Pickles was truly born.

Deidre set about researching the process of creating a commercially canned product.
Deidre found a local food processing cooperative who helped
Skinny Pickles bring the product into being within Ohio Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Deidre hired a food scientist to assay and establish the official recipe and production formula.
Deidre did all this to make sure that our
Skinny Pickle product is of the highest quality and that the consumer has the same reaction as our
family and friends who received the home canned versions.

Meanwhile, Alex (and twelve year old son Kyle) watered, weeded and tended
the fifty seven pickle mounds (each with three or four plants)
during which time Deidre...
(do you get the feeling she is a driving force here?)
found organic spices, bought commercial canning jars
and did a myriad of other tasks that led to the product you see here before you.

Each jar hand packed.                  Every pickle hand cut.

This is jar is a summer filled with taste...
and the taste is a Norman Rockwell painting
of someone's Grandma smiling and serving up her best.

Sincerely yours

Deidre and Alex Bevan
