"The angels are all around us.
You might mistake the rustling of
their feathers
for the sound of wind through dry
leaves."
..... Grady Billington
This recording is mostly about journeys.…
some of them mine...
others imagined.
The production is a departure from my “Low Tech” style,
however,
in these songs you will find the same love and craft
that I try to bring to my solo performances.
I think discovering textures and how they relate to other objects or
textures
gives us a window for discovery.… but...
enough about what I think!
The songs began coming to me last fall (2006) and finished up in
November of this year (2007).
The original working title was “Sketchbook”, then,
as the project evolved, it became “Winter into Spring”.
Sometime this Summer while trying to complete the writing of some of
the music
(while keeping my fingers to the grindstone of my performance schedule)
I began referring to the unfinished tangle of sound files as “Maybe”.
This went on for a while until at last in October when I was able to
spend some time
at Suma Recording with my old friends Paul Hamann (engineer), Gus
Oswald (Drums and Percussion)
and bassist Bill Watson to put things back on track.
Marc Lee Shannon came along when asked just for the fun and Michael
Stanley loaned me the closing song.
Today I call this work “Fall & Angels".
sincerely yours
