MY SHOP
I built my shop in 1992. It's 400 sq. ft. with a
small 32 sq. ft. spray booth. I also utilize the upstairs (attic space)
for storage of wood and instruments that I've acquired at different
auctions, garage sales etc. I salvage some parts and some times fix
them if the're worth fixing.
I have utilized all available space with
work stations or tools. I also have a 12'x20' shed that I store my wood
that is drying or other large jigs and extra tools that I 've aquired.
Sometimes a use this space to cut larger sized wood to dimensions to
bring into the shop. It saves on a lot of dust and cleanup later.
I find it very helpful
to keep a "log" of the
things that are being worked on and the time being spent on each
project as to give me some sort of basis for pricing my work . Many
things are subjected completly to the "time & material" form of
procedure (such as custom inlays, rebuilding parts ect.) and some
things can be a flat rate such as setups or most fret work. I do the
best I can to provide the working musician with a timely repairs
without sacrificing time to my other paying customers.
I love to design things . Guitars are just a
part of the things that I design in the shop I always finding myself
having to design or build some sort of a jig to assist me in some way
to insure that what ever I'm doing comes out right. This can sometimes
be as fun and challenging as
any of the many other aspects of building
and repairing instruments.
